STEM Racing

Stem Racing is the worlds largest second level S.T.E.M competition. It is informed by engineers, endorsed by Formula One and provides a good experience for students looking to gain experience working with a team on a long term S.T.E.M project.

Task requirements

There are a multitude of objectives for the STEM Racing competition, most of which don't have anything to do with the car itself. These include things like PowerPoint portfolios,

Designing and Manufacturing a car

Obviously, we need to design our car as well as source materials and equipment to manufacture it and all of its' prototypes.

This requires a lot of research into real F1 cars and physics laws.

Creating a Brand Identity

We are also required to make a brand identity, complete with uniforms logos and values.

This takes a lot of preparation to graphically design the logos and uniforms. This also requires us to find a good supplier for our uniforms.

The Pit Display

The pit display is our section at the competition which will show our portfolios of work at the competition.

The pit display includes our two ten page portfolios of our work over the projects' lifespan, our car, any sponsors and basically everything we've done as a team. It is one of the main financial costs of the entire project.

Sponsorship

I think the hardest part of this project is finding businesses that would be willing to sponsor us.

We need quite a large sum of money to buy materials for the car and pit display, the uniforms, transport to the competition and any other costs such as buying a domain for this very website.

The Competition In Ireland

In Ireland, STEM Racing is a annual competition with five main parts:

Registration: Teams Register to the competition Online

5 Page Plan: This is a 5 page PowerPoint that maps out a teams journey for the competition, qualifications are based on this.

Manufacturing Deadline: Initial designs for the car have to be submitted. 

Regional Competition:This is not happening this year, but there have been less qualifiers as a result.

National Finals: The final competition in May, where we will race our final car ad present our work from the year.
